SEX & PORNOGRAPHY ADDICTION THERAPY
At Comfort Christian Counseling, Jeff Hutchinson offers coaching for those struggling with sex and pornography addiction. We want you to know there is HOPE. Perhaps you have tried to stop your compulsive behavior multiple times only to find yourself right back where you started. You may have thought that getting married, praying more, or even getting into ministry would stop your addiction. But you can not do this alone. Individual therapy and group work, such as a 12-step program, are crucial to recovery from sexual addiction. Although more common in men, women can also be sex addicts. This is usually exhibited more relationally than men and is often referred to as love addiction.
What is sexual addiction?
"Sexual addiction is defined as any sexually-related, compulsive behavior which interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and one's work environment. Sexual addiction has been called sexual dependency and sexual compulsivity. Sexual addicts make sex a priority more important than family, friends, and work. Sex becomes the organizing principle of an addict's lives. They are willing to sacrifice what they cherish most in order to preserve and continue their unhealthy behavior." - via New Leaf
Unfortunately, pornography's powerful appeal leads many into sexual addiction. A life dedicated to pornography, or even just seasoned with occasional viewing of it can become considerably darkened by the many harmful side effects. Here are just a few of the many possible side effects of pornography addiction:
- Perversions (bestiality, transexuality, fetishes, etc.)
- Sexual imbalance
- Sexual dissatisfaction
- Lies & deception
- Uncontrolled thoughts
- Marital strife / destruction / divorce
- Corrupted perception of reality
- Warped interpersonal skills
- Increased tendency toward sexual crime
- Inability to give or receive love
- Loss of discernment

In Swahili there are many words for Welcome. Caribou is a special welcome used at night while camped around a fire when someone approaches from the darkness. It means you are welcome to come in from the darkness in the light. Caribou Ministries is dedicated to helping men who are lost in the dark world of sexual immorality. Pornography, adultery, and sexual addiction have become them enemy's greatest weapons against us. The guilt and the shame leave men with little recourses. Our vision is to provide hope, recovery, and healing for those with no where else to go, for those who are lost in the dark. To those men we say "Caribou."

I can't tell you how many times I've heard a spouse say "He just doesn't get it." She's right, we don't get it, we can't understand the terrible pain we have inflicted. The trauma that torments her and the triggers that seem to be around every corner are foreign to us. Most of us can identify our triggers, character defects, resentments, and anything else recovery-based. We continue to live an addict-centric life. This is our biggest failure as addicts.
You noticed it; and regardless if you bounced your eyes, took a second look, drifted off into fantasy or turned away and captured your thoughts as Paul instructs us to do, Dumbo is now flying around. Is she aware of what has just happened? Well, it’s not so difficult to notice an elephant with big ears flying around. If you’re a Star Wars fan you can equate it to a disturbance in the force. Still, as obvious as it is, we remain silent.

Here you will find support, conversation, feedback and resources to help you understand yourself and the Sex Addict. This understanding and knowledge of the hows and whys will be the first step toward healing for yourself and the addict.
Although each group is different and we can't possibly be aware of, or agree with, what goes on at every meeting, this is the sex addiction support group/12 step program we officially endorse. Other groups are available. Some are helpful and some, in our opinion, are unhelpful and could even be harmful. One must prayerfully seek guidance and use discernment in which meetings/support groups to attend. Tragically, there are wolves in sheep's clothing masquerading as individuals and groups who can help you heal.
